About the Founder of TPM
Ed M. Smith: Founder
Ed Smith is the developer of Transformation Prayer Ministry. He holds a masters degree in education (focus in marriage and family counseling) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX and a Doctorate of Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. He also completed most of his work toward his Doctorate of Education in marriage and family counseling (Ed.D.) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Smith holds a traditional conservative protestant theology. He adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message and attends a Southern Baptist Church. However, the TPM Process (protocol for applying the actual process in a ministry session) is not dependent upon Ed Smith’s personal theology. If a person studies all that is offered under the cover of TPM, he will probably be exposed to biblical perspectives in which he may not fully agree. This is understandable, since the Body of Christ is very divided theologically. Nevertheless, the process itself is not theological, but practical and reasonable. It is a series of questions that are asked of the person designed to help him or her to identify their lie-based core belief.
Surprisingly, one of the largest groups using TPM are Catholics. This is an indication that the “theology” of TPM has not been an issue. You are advised to keep what you can and discard what you cannot. However, if you choose to call what you are offering in your ministry session Transformation Prayer Ministry, then you should adhered completely to the designed protocol or else call what you are doing by another name.
Smith’s ministry career includes 17 years of service to local Southern Baptist churches prior to developing TPM in 1996 as a pastoral counselor. He and his wife, Sharon (41 years married), also have led Marriage Enrichment conferences across the country (The Basic Ingredients for a Happy Marriage). He has authored many articles for Christian magazines, authored, Beyond Tolerable Recovery, The Trouble Shooter’s Guide for TPM, Healing Life’s Hurts Through Theophostic Prayer, developed both the Basic and Advanced Training programs for TPM, presented at many national conferences to include the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS), and the National Leader’s Conference for Catholic Renewal.
Transformation Prayer Ministry International is a non-profit organization. All of the training provided online is freely available to all people without cost.

I really like the new training encouraging every person to learn how to do this on their own, or with just one other person. Can you address the changes around the 2007 teaching on legal forms, i.e., confidentiality and so forth? Should those doing ministry continue to have these forms signed before doing ministry? Thank you very much.
Every ministry setting is different. Anyone providing ministry outside of his personal circle of relationships should be knowledgeable what is legally required of him or her. The main thing is that people being prayed with fully understand what they are receiving. The best way to do this is to require each one to go to the TPM website and work through the articles and videos that explain the TPM process. This of course is assuming that the facilitator is following protocol for administering the TPM process.
The article titled “Ministry Session Guidelines” is a good one to start with. At the same time, there is no harm done in having them sign release forms, hold harmless agreements or anything that you deem best that fits your situation.
Are there people trained by you that are ministering in the Dallas (Euless), TX area?
A family just lost their son/ brother to suicide!
I was healed through the theophostic counselling. Now it doesn’t exist and I have been looking for theophostic but there are no contact phone number nor emails. I really would appreciate if someone could help me. I live in Belleville, Ontario, Canada and would like to connect to the organization around here. Thank you
We do not have any referral listing of people who “say” that they are doing a pure form of TPM since we have no way to know with any certainty what people are actually doing in practice. As far as “theophostic” not existing, it is alive and well. It simply has a new name (Transformation Prayer Ministry) and a newly revised and updated content. This website offers all that there is concerning TPM. What is offered is freely available to you by the gracious support of others making it possible. Enjoy and be blessed.
We do not have any referral list of people “saying” that they are doing TPM. Sorry.
TPM saved my life!! I’m a survivor of SRA and didn’t even know it when I first started in prayer ministry. My prayer ‘therapist’ was trained by Ed Smith and I’m so thankful. I can’t say enough of how this process changed my life. I no longer take medications and have been totally healed from DID. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this ministry process available to others!!!!!!!
