When Anger Shows Up
We need to discuss the possibility of anger showing up in your session. There are several articles that discuss anger in depth on this website that you can study later to give you more information. In brief, it is important that you be aware of the insidious nature of anger and why you must let your prayer minister know anytime you feel its presence during a ministry session. Anger will slow down the process and even cause it to stall out.

Anger: the Bad Emotion

For whatever reason, as a culture we have labeled anger as a “bad” emotion and generally reject it. We even try to “scold” it out of people—or at least convince them to keep it at bay—and it is often suppressed. However, anger is almost always a “solution” to something. It is a serving emotion, serving a specific purpose when engaged.

Anger may provide a false illusion of being safe, protected, or in control. Sometimes we are angry at someone because we believe that our being angry holds the person accountable or punishes them for what they have done. The Bible is clear that  “… the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God” (James 1:20). At the same time we are given permission to be angry but with limitation. Ephesians 4:26 says, “Be angry, just do not sin, don’t let the sun go down on your anger, don’t give the devil opportunity.”

When we are angry, we will be either angry in one of two directions. We will feel angry toward God, or toward someone, something or our self.  If we are angry toward God we will approach dealing with this anger differently than if we are angry toward others, self or our situation. If we are angry at God we will identify why we are angry and take this belief to Him and ask for His perspective.  This is straightforward and simple. However, when we are angry toward anyone, anything or our self, this anger is operating as a solution and we will address it in the SOLUTION Box.

So if you feel angry anywhere along the way during your ministry session it is VERY important that you let your prayer minister know this, even if you are feeling anger toward him or her.
